EPA Dramatically Weakens Radiation Protection
EPA Dramatically Weakens Radiation Protection:02 June 13
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is publishing in the Federal Register today controversial new Protective Action Guides (PAGs) for responding to radioactive releases. EPA says it solicits public comment but is nonetheless making the PAGs immediately effective.
The new PAGs eliminate requirements to evacuate people in the face of high projected thyroid, skin, or lifetime whole body doses; recommend dumping radioactive waste in municipal garbage dumps not designed for such waste; propose five options for drinking water, which would dramatically increase the permitted concentrations of radioactivity in drinking water, by as much as 27,000 times, compared to EPA's current Safe Drinking Water Act limits; and suggest markedly relaxing long-term cleanup standards.
"In essence the government is now saying nuclear power accidents could produce such widespread contamination and produce such high radiation levels that the government should abandon efforts to clean it up and instead force people to live with radiation-induced cancer risks orders of magnitude higher than ever considered acceptable," said Daniel Hirsch, president of Committee to Bridge the Gap.
The PAGs are intended to guide the response to nuclear power reactor accidents (like Fukushima in Japan, Chernobyl in Ukraine and Three Mile Islandin the U.S.), "dirty bomb" explosions, radioactive releases from nuclear fuel and weapons facilities, and nuclear transportation accidents.
"EPA ignores the fact that women and kids are at even greater risk from radiation. The doses permitted by the 2013 EPA PAGs will allow indecent exposures to radiation," says Diane D'Arrigo of Nuclear Information and Resource Service. "Women are 50% more vulnerable than men and children are at even greater risk from radiation than adults, according to data from the National Academy of Sciences."
Extremely high food contamination levels would be allowed by the incorporation of Food and Drug Administration 1998 guidance. EPA officials had previously criticized those standards, saying that 1 in 50 people eating food at those levels would get cancer from their exposure, on top of our normal cancer risk.
The PAGs also incorporate and expand controversial Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) PAGs adopted in 2008 which would allow long-term doses as high as thousands of millirems per year without cleanup being required. Associated guidance for carrying out the long-term cleanup, prepared for DHS and for which the comment period expires today, recommends abandoning EPA's long-held cleanup standards and instead allowing people to be exposed to doses as high as the equivalent of three chest Xrays a day for one's entire life. Over 70 years, EPA estimates 1 in 6 people would get cancer from exposure that high, orders of magnitude higher risk than EPA has historically said is acceptable.
In addition, EPA admits that a nuclear power accident could far exceed the capacity of radioactive waste sites to manage waste generated from cleanups and therefore suggests allowing the waste to go to regular trashdumps, a fight the public has waged for decades in the US.
This is NOT acceptable! Do they really think we are so stupid that we will not notice a huge increase in cancers and infant mortality? This is wrong and should not be allowed to happen.
questionall: It is criminal that these findings and statistics...

It is criminal that these findings and statistics are just recently being made public, as this has been known for many years. It is sad that US government leadership found it in the best interests of the United States, aka more profitable, to suppress these findings from the general public as long as possible. I am not sure yet if it was all our lawmakers, or if corporate media also had a hand in silencing this information from Americans, but I aim to find out. I will soon be posting more about exactly this issue, so stay tuned. ~ Tom Retterbush *Note: Of course, where it says Chemotherapy kills 7 out of 10 patients, the actual cancer had a lot to do with it too.

questionall: TOKYO, June 2 (UPI) —Despite more than 8 million...

TOKYO, June 2 (UPI) —Despite more than 8 million signatures against the government's plan to restart nuclear power plants collected, the gov of Japan still plans on restarting nuclear power plants. Citizens in Japan are suffering from the ongoing 2 year nuclear disaster and they want the nuclear madness stopped. The gov is NOT listening to the people and citizens have taken to the streets in protest. Approximately 60,000 people rallied Sunday near the Diet building in Tokyo to protest the government's plan to restart nuclear power plants.
The rally began in Shiba Park, which was attended by Nobel laureate Kenzaburo Oe, RIA Novosti reported. The protesters then marched on the Diet building.
SAD THAT MAINSTREAM MEDIA ISN'T COVERING THIS
If they did, they would be encouraging more protests against nuclear to happen all around the world and they would not want that to happen as that would be going against what the corporate/industry owned media would want. Sad but true.
The nuclear industry does not want you to know the truth about chernobyl. They don't want you to know that if a nuclear power plant in your country explodes, your family could experience the same fate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ujAG_Ofj4M
Seriously, would a safe and honest industry do this? Take a look for yourself www.vimeo.com/33724891
and now we are seeing the same kind of cover up going on with the disaster in Japan.
No mainstream media talking about all the kids getting sick.
No mainstream media talking about the thousands of people still displaced 2 years later despite being told they would be able to go home in a matter of weeks after the nuclear disaster! Some told recently in their trailer park "temporary" housing that the soonest they would be able to go home now is 30 years —same exact thing happened with Chernobyl.
No mainstream media talking about the fact that nuclear industry with the blessings of the gov have raised the "acceptable" level of radiation exposure for babies to the previous yearly maximum level for full grown men working at nuclear power plants. Does that seem right to you??? That is crimes against children!!!
Just raise the level of acceptability of nuclear exposure means the gov does not have to shell out the money to evacuate families and the gov won't lose the money from any industry activity and exports from that area—if they evacuate people it shows farming shouldn't be happening there shipped around the country and to the rest of the world, etc…if you evacuate people you have to abandoned money making businesses there too…the gov wouldn't have any of that…Great way to solve the problem!! (NOT—but it is happening)
Cicadas mutated. Born with an extra leg on top of their heads. Beautiful butterflies mutated. They cannot fly.
All this hidden. Hidden to protect the economy.
In the US, Gina McCarthy, Obama's choice to head up the entire EPA who came from the department that monitored radiation in the US before getting the nomination (somehow many of the monitoring stations under her leadership ended up being reported as "broken" right after the numbers from Fukushima started ticking up in the US) has said if we had our own nuclear disaster that the way we should handle it is not to evacuate people if it would be devastating to the economy. That is the lesson she learned from Fukushima. How insane is that???!!
In essence shelter in place and embrace the "new norm" whatever that might be. From McCarthy's perspective, people have to understand that from the gov's perspective there is more to things then the health of citizenry— namely preserving the economy. Does this sound right to you? Put the economy ahead of the rights of people?
From our perspective, the rights of citizens should come first, not the rights of industry to potential poison people!!!
Phasing out nuclear seems like the better choice so citizens are not put at risk from exposure in the first place!!
The silence on all the damage the nuclear industry has done and is doing is deafening but we can't let that stop the truth from getting out. Nuclear power is dangerous. Everyone all around the world, including in the US, should be rising up against it!

Many of you have seen my posts regarding Monsanto Corporation and the illness their products create. This week Vladimir Putin said he has had enough as well. He threatened the US that things need to change and Monsanto needs to stop. I compiled a list of current and past employees of this company and their relationship to the US Government. If this doesn't SCREAM corruption i don't know what will? Please share this!!!!!

ome interesting things about Rex Tillerson's statements: - 1. No more denial of scientific evidence. - 2. No more diversion about whether human activity or something else is to blame. - 3. No more disingenuous claims that NG or Hydrogen are clean fuels. - Just an honest and straightforward macroeconomic outlook: We are on a collision course with the consequences of rising CO2 levels, we cannot afford to stop it, and so there is nothing Exxon can offer but a warning to prepare for the worst. http://seekingalpha.com/article/1475061-exxon-mobil-ceo-we-re-going-in-can-t-pull-up-brace-for-impact?source=email_alternative_energy_investing&ifp=0

The Fatal Truth About Lyme Disease: What Everyone Should Know | Collective-Evolution
The Fatal Truth About Lyme Disease: What Everyone Should Know | Collective-Evolution:You have heard, and will hear, it time and time again: "Lyme disease is cured with a few weeks of antibiotics." If this is the case, why are hundreds of thousands –if not more- suffering for years on end from the disease? According to the CDC, they are not, because chronic Lyme disease does not exist:
"Approximately 10 to 20% of patients treated for Lyme disease with a recommended 2–4 week course of antibiotics will have lingering symptoms of fatigue, pain, or joint and muscle aches. In some cases, these can last for more than 6 months. Although often called "chronic Lyme disease," this condition is properly known as "Post-treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome. [1]"
For people suffering from Chronic Lyme, this statement is infuriating because they feel they are being told they are crazy; and also because pain, fatigue, and joint/muscle aches are often the least of their worries. Much more serious health complications arise from Lyme, and it is important that the public is aware of these symptoms. When looking at the bigger picture, the infuriating part is just how dangerous this statement is. If left untreated, Lyme disease can and will be fatal. That is the sad and often ignored truth.
Furthermore, it is estimated that only one out of every ten cases of Lyme disease is actually reported and that numerous individuals are misdiagnosed. In 2010 alone, state health departments reported 22,561 confirmed cases of Lyme disease and 7,597 probable cases to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The actual number is believed to be much higher than the yearly number of cases reported. One reason for this is due to the fact that reporting criteria varies from state to state; and most states take time to report only the minimum amount required. Still, the number of reported cases has increased 25-fold since national surveillance began in 1982 [4].
Of course it is three years later, but unfortunately 2010 is the most recent year researched. So if the number of reported Lyme cases was only continuing to increase at that time, and since there has been no evidence of a decrease in cases, it can only be assumed that the number of people with Lyme disease is appallingly higher at the present moment. There are so many angles to touch on this topic, so let's start with the very basics because there are many, many people who do not so much as know what Lyme disease is, much less how you contract it.
What is Lyme disease?
- According to 'Wikipedia', "Lyme disease, Lyme borreliosis is an infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia [2]."
- In lay terms, Lyme disease is an infection from a tick bite.
- Eloquently put by 'Tired of Lyme', "the non-technical term is what can truly depict Lyme disease best. It involves aspects ranging from every angle of the lives of those affected including physical, mental and social. [3]"
Initial Symptoms
- Bulls-eye rash is a definite positive of Lyme disease. However, only 50% of people with Lyme disease recall having a bulls-eye rash. The rash can also appear in bruise form depending on a person's pigmentation. For example, a bruise that is blue/black on the outside, with a lighter color circle in the middle is a clear indication of Lyme disease. If you get to the doctor while you still have the rash, you have a better shot of getting treated right away and not having to deal with Chronic Lyme disease. As I will discuss later, testing is not always accurate, so getting to the doctor when you notice a bulls-eye rash is imperative.
- Fatigue
- Flu-like symptoms
- Muscle and joint aches/pain
The above symptoms describe the typical initial onset of Lyme disease. But what if you, or someone you know, miss the crucial time period in which those are the only symptoms? Unfortunately, there are over thirty other symptoms, each of which can mimic other diseases. This along with the fact that standard testing is only 30% percent accurate is why it is of the upmost importance for the public to be informed on, at the bare minimum, the basic truths behind Lyme disease.
Other Symptoms
- Low grade fevers, "hot flashes" or chills
- Night sweat
- Sore throat
- Swollen glands
- Stiff neck
- Migrating arthralgia's, stiffness and frank arthritis
- Myalgia
- Chest pain and palpitations
- Abdominal pain, nausea
- Sleep disturbance
- Poor concentration and memory loss
- Irritability and mood swings
- Depression
- Back pain
- Blurred vision and eye pain
- Jaw pain
- Testicular/pelvic pain
- Tinnitus
- Vertigo
- Cranial nerve disturbance (facial numbness, pain, tingling, palsy or optic neuritis)
- Head aches
- Lightheadedness
- Dizziness
- Mysterious migrating symptoms that seem to come and go
Testing
A few blood tests are available for Lyme disease, but none are 100% accurate. The standard test is called an ELISA test. Oddly enough though, the ELISA is not based on the specific Lyme bacteria strain that is most beneficial for diagnostic testing. Therefor, the ELISA has a mere 30% accuracy rate. A negative reading can be meaningless, because false negatives are more common than not. A false positive is basically unheard of, so if you are lucky enough to test positive in the early stages it is a clear indication that you have the infection and need to start treatment right away. I use the term "lucky" here not because you are lucky if you have Lyme, but because you are lucky if you have Lyme and test positive early on. For many, it takes one pain-staking year after another before they are so much as introduced to the idea that they may possibly have Lyme disease. Another available, yet less administered, Lyme test is the Western Blot. While this test is slightly more reliable than the ELISA test, it is still faulty.
Doctors should not rely on test results alone to make a Lyme diagnosis because to date, a reliable test for the diagnosis of Lyme disease ceases to exist. Lyme doctors make a diagnosis based on a patient's symptoms, medical history, and exposure to ticks –although that last one is not required, since ticks know no boundaries. Contrary to the popular statement that ticks are prevalent only in certain areas, the truth is you can walk outside your own front door and get bit.
If it all possible, it is best to get to a Lyme literate doctor if you believe you may have Lyme disease. This too also proves to be a difficult task, as many do not publicize that they specialize in Lyme disease due to legal reasons. To receive a list of Lyme literate practioners closest to you, email the 'Tick Borne Disease Alliance' at medicalinfo@tbdalliance.org.
