thetuningspork:

All our kids would play
A sunless day
The rain would come
The rain always brings our heroes

The sky here keeps thinking about raining - grey clouds then blue sky then back to grey clouds. So it became a Blue October kind of a day.

I'm extremely fond of Blue October's lyrics. Justin Furstenfeld is a very intriguing man. He's obviously a musician (this includes singer, lyricist, and record producer) as well as an author and artist (the covers of albums The Answers and History For Sale are two of his paintings.) He's battled with bipolar disorder and anxiety for several years which has largely contributed to Furstenfeld's songwriting.

I admire musicians who write their own songs. When I was younger I thought all musicians wrote their own songs and then sang them. But as I got older and my love for music intensified, I learned that the music industry was much more complex than I had originally thought.

And Furstenfeld has written over 500 songs, which to me is a pretty impressive feat. His book Crazy Making - The Words and Lyrics of Justin Furstenfeld, published in 2009, is a compilation of all his lyrics from The Answers (first album  1998) through Approaching Normal (2009) as well as Furstenfeld's inspiration for each and every Blue October song. And at some point, I intend to buy this book.

If you would like to read an interview with Justin about Crazy Making, go ahead and click here. It's good stuff.

"It's not like I have answers, but I can share my experience, strength, and hope with people. Maybe everyone there can walk away gong, 'Yeah, I'm not alone after all.'" (Furstenfeld on his book Crazy Making and solo acoustic/reading tour)
